Venus Bay Conservation Park is no place for ferals

A new trial of Feral Cat Grooming Traps in Venus Bay Conservation Park on the Eyre Peninsula is proving to be a success in targeting feral cats. Eyre Peninsula Natural Resource Officer Tayla Bowden said that vermin control methods inside Venus Bay Conservation Park hope to lessen the feral cat’s impact on our native and rare species present in the park, such as the greater bilby, brush-tailed bettong as well as a range of small mammals, birds and reptiles.

Managing Practice Change in Agriculture Grants now open

Applications are now open for funding of up to $4000 in the 2016-17 round of the Managing Sustainable Practice Change in Agriculture Grants. Presiding Member of the Eyre Peninsula Natural Resources Management Board Diana Laube said the grants were open to agriculture and farming systems groups based on Eyre Peninsula.

Lamb survival, wool, meat and productivity free workshop series

Closure for whale migration and breeding

Details of the Great Australian Bight Marine Park - Restricted Access Zone and Marine Mammal Protection Zone within the Great Australian Bight Marine Park under temporary closure and off-limits to boats from 1 May until 31 October 2016, to make safe passage for Southern Right Whales as they make their way north to their breeding areas.

Koala sightings

Anyone who sees a koala in the wild on Eyre Peninsula is being encouraged to record it to contribute to the Natural Resources Eyre Peninsula latest citizen science project, EP Koala. Koala sighting information will be used to understand more about the way koalas are spreading across southern Eyre Peninsula.

Source your firewood sustainably

During autumn many prepare for the cold, wet and windy days ahead by collecting wood for their winter fires. Wood removed from roadsides and bush land has the potential to spread diseases that affect plant life and have a negative impact on wildlife including birds, lizards and small mammals. Natural Resources, Eyre Peninsula is urging the community to carefully consider the source of their firewood to minimise negative impacts on the environment.
